Speak up lil bitches

11 May

As you know, I am a wellness bitch loud and proud. People in my life have actually started introducing me that way to perfect strangers. Or, my husband for instance, will say something to the effect of, “watch out, here comes the wellness bitch.” As if I’m Bruce Banner morphing into the Incredible Hulk.

It’s all good.

What’s also fun is how much people relate to the concept of being a wellness bitch. I get comments like, “yeah, I’m the wellness bitch in my playgroup. People are terrified to bring snacks into my house without checking with me first.” Or yesterday, a practitioner I met for the first time said, “Is The Wellness Bitch anything like the Reiki Nazis I know?”

People who are passionate about health and wellness do not blend in with the crowd. They may not have a podium to speak on or rant daily on a blog, but people in their lives know what they’re up to.

For me, bitching usually happens around the topics of food, childbirth choice, parenting, education and health care. But I’m curious to know what you’re pissed off about. What WAKE UP CALLS are you sharing with your family and friends? What do you want to say that I may not be bitchin’ enough about?

Use The Wellness Bitch today as your podium. Go ahead. Rant. Here.

I’d say “keep it clean,” but that’d be hypocritical, wouldn’t it?

Childbirth and food are my big ones, but also environmental impact of your choices. Which, ultimately come back to POLLUTE YOU! That bottled water that you buy? What’s going to happen to the bottle? I don’t care if you do recycle it, it’s still unnecessary plastic that will be sitting around when the only thing left are the cockroaches!!!

Food. Specifically that people don’t read ingredients, don’t think about what’s in food, and don’t take time to think about food purchases. Rather, most people rely on front of box marketing(“I’ll buy this — it has a health choice check mark!”) and/or let their kids make food decisions (either actively or passively).

I also get really eye-rolly when people say eating healthy is too expensive, it takes
too much time to cook, or that they don’t want to think about what’s in the food.

I’m not a wellness bitch but I think I might bring up to the director of my kids preschool possibly serving either organic or at least all natural snacks. Every time I see the packages laying around I can’t believe my kids are eating that almost everyday.

You may not consider yourself a wellness bitch, Jame, but I have a feeling you are. Once you start stirring things up, you’re a wellness bitch. You don’t have to be as “in your face” as I can be. And, trust me, I know how to use my girlish charms to get what I want, too. (More bees with honey, and all that jazz.)

You go make a difference at your kids preschool. You’ll be impacting more lives than you know. And that’s the first step on the path to being a wellness bitch. It’s a badge of honor.

Mine are probably the benefits of breastfeeding and the need for EVERY child to get an appropriate education. I am particularly passionate about the unique educational needs of boys and the absolute necessity of kids getting a decent chunk of recess time everyday – preferably outside even when its cold!

I am also thinking about taking on what is served in the school cafeteria. I don’t want my kids to have access to chips every day at lunch. If I choose for them to have chips, thats my business, but there is no reason for chips and apple jacks to be sold in school!
